BEHIND THE ART

Katherine is an artist working from her home studio located on the South coast, UK. She has always had a passion for art studying up to college. She then went on to graduate with a bachelors degree in engineering. Despite having a successful career in the engineering industry Katherine continues to work hard on her art in her free time. Katherine has always grown up around the coast and has always had a love for the ocean.

‘The ocean is a true love of mine. I have always admired how beautiful the ocean colours are and how the ocean can share emotions. How calm and peaceful the ocean can be one day and then turn into an angry stormy sea. These emotions I aim to achieve through art.’

Katherine studied hyperrealism using graphite and oil paint mediums focusing on portraiture. She continues to be inspired by the hyperrealism movement and has more recently been using a stippling technique. ’Stippling I stumbled across online.

‘Throughout my art career I have always wanted to challenge myself so I wanted to attempt to create a hyperrealistic effect through stippling. Stippling I have found to be a very therapeutic technique. I have always been fascinated to see stippling work at afar when the dots merge to shades and create a masterpiece’ - KB

Whilst stippling is a familiar technique to Katherine, she continues to work with oil paints to capture the colours in the ocean.

‘I have worked with oils paints for years and have always loved the results. To create the art I intend to share, oil paints have been the best medium to use. The way colours melt into one another add such a soothing and calming sense to my paintings.’ - KB
